Site Safety Manager Jobs in NYC

Skilled Safety Management is hiring NYC DOB-licensed Site Safety Managers for active high-rise construction projects across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. These are full-time W-2 roles assigned to a single project at a time, with mobility to the next project the moment your current one closes out.

What you'll do day to day

  • Walk the site daily and document conditions in the SSM logbook
  • Sign off on concrete pours, hoist erection, scaffold builds, demolition phases, crane picks
  • Inspect sidewalk sheds, scaffolds, hoists, netting, and fall protection
  • Coordinate directly with NYC DOB inspectors during scheduled and unscheduled visits
  • Stop unsafe work and document the reason (including pushing back on trades that aren't your direct report)
  • Coordinate with FDNY on hot-work and welding operations
  • File reports for incidents and near-misses
  • Keep your project's permits, COIs, and DOB-required postings current

You'll have direct support from SSM's admin team in Brooklyn for paperwork, COI requests, DOB violation responses, and HR matters. Your time stays on the field, not in your truck filling out forms.

What we require

  • Current NYC DOB Site Safety Manager license in good standing
  • Current NYC SST Supervisor card (62-hour) per Local Law 196
  • OSHA-30 Construction certification
  • At least 2 years of field experience as a licensed SSM on a NYC Major Building (15+ stories or 200+ ft)
  • Clean license history (no pending DOB discipline)
  • Reliable transportation between job sites
  • Working English (bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus)

Plus, helpful but not required

  • Concrete Safety Manager certification (CSM): opens you up to dual-credential roles at higher pay
  • FDNY F-89 Certificate of Fitness: same
  • Construction Safety Engineering experience: moves you into our consulting work
  • Experience with specific high-risk operations: large mat pours, complex demolition sequencing, façade access systems

Application process

  1. Submit your resume along with your DOB SSM license number.
  2. Phone screen (30 min) with our staffing lead. We go over your experience, the kinds of projects you want next, and answer questions.
  3. In-person meet (45 min) at our Sunset Park office, or on a job site if more convenient. Bring your physical license card and SST card.
  4. Reference checks with two prior SSM placements (we keep these confidential).
  5. Offer. Written, with the project assignment, start date, and pay rate spelled out.

Most candidates go from "submitted resume" to "first day on a project" in 2–3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Do you W-2 or 1099?

W-2 only. We don't rent licenses. Every credential we sell on a project is held by an employee.

How long are typical assignments?

6–18 months on a single project, with movement directly to the next project on closeout.

Can I request specific boroughs or project types?

Yes. We try to match you with assignments that fit your home location and the kind of work you do best.

Do you cover night shifts?

Yes. Some of our roles include overnight pours and weekend coverage. Shift premium applies.

What happens if a project gets a stop work order?

The Brooklyn office coordinates with the inspector to lift it. You document corrective action. We handle the paperwork and follow-up. You're not on your own.

Do you hire managers who hold both SSM and CSM credentials?

Aggressively. Dual-credentialed managers are paid at a higher band and often work shorter project timelines because we can rotate them to where they're needed most.
